Saudi Saggai: A desert gem with a unique texture
While most of the world knows Medjool or Ajwa, connoisseurs in Saudi Arabia speak with respect about a variety that remains almost unknown in Europe – Saggai. These dates deliver a top-tier gourmet experience thanks to their fascinating play of textures and a refined flavour you won’t find in any other variety.
1. The secret of contrasting textures in a single fruit
Saggai are famous for their distinctive texture profile. When harvested in the Rutab stage, they gain remarkable juiciness and a complex structure:
• The outer layer is firmer with pronounced notes of plums and raisins • The inner part is soft, luscious and perfectly juicy with a full fruity taste
That contrast in a single bite creates an unforgettable experience – you start with an intense layer reminiscent of ripe plums and raisins, and gradually move into a creamy, tender centre. It’s like tasting multiple flavour layers in one date.
2. A balanced taste for demanding gourmets
Unlike aggressively sweet varieties, Saggai offers a restrained, well-balanced flavour with plum-and-raisin character. This refined palette makes Saggai an ideal match for Arabic coffee with cardamom or a strong espresso – their complexity perfectly balances coffee’s bitterness without overpowering it.
3. Rarity and luxury – dates for special occasions
In Saudi Arabia, Saggai are valued as a symbol of luxury and respect. They are often served at engagements, weddings, and important family gatherings.
At special auctions for collectors and connoisseurs, the price of exceptional pieces can reach up to EUR 200 per kilogram – proof of their outstanding rarity and prestige in the Arab world.
In Europe they are virtually unavailable – most production stays in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring Gulf countries. That’s why their availability in the Czech Republic is a unique opportunity.
4. Natural quality from the Al-Qassim oases
Just like Medjool Rutab, Saggai comes from the renowned Al-Qassim region, where:
• Mineral-rich soil gives the fruit its signature profile • Extreme daytime desert heat and cool nights create ideal conditions for developing its unique texture • Traditional cultivation with individual care for each palm ensures top quality
Thanks to the optimal climate, Rutab-stage Saggai retain their natural juiciness and softness without any processing, steaming, or added syrups.
Important note: Saggai Rutab is rare even in Saudi Arabia, and in Europe it is an absolute rarity. If you’re looking for dates that will surprise you with their uniqueness and refined flavour, Saggai is the right choice.

Origin: The heart of Arabian tradition in the Al-Qassim region
These premium Saggai dates come from the fertile oases of Al-Qassim in central Saudi Arabia. The area is world-famous as the “garden of dates” and is home to the rarest batches grown exclusively in this region.
Why is Al-Qassim so special?
Ideal microclimate: A specific combination of hot desert sun and rich underground springs creates conditions you won’t find anywhere else. The region has over 8 million date palms and produces more than 370 thousand tons of dates per year. Thanks to these unique conditions, Saggai dates develop their characteristic two-tone appearance and delicate texture.
Generational heritage: Our dates come from plantations with a long cultivation tradition, where know-how is passed down from generation to generation. Each fruit is the result of careful hand harvesting and strict selection of the finest pieces.
A place of prestigious auctions: Al-Qassim hosts the world’s largest date festival (Buraidah Date Festival) every year, where more than 300,000 tons of dates are traded. Auctions at the festival see top batches reaching daily sales of up to USD 5 million.
While most production stays on the local market as a national treasure, we bring you the chance to taste the very best straight from these renowned plantations – in authentic quality that guarantees freshness and depth of flavour you won’t find elsewhere.

Important: Pit and safety
• Naturally with a pit: The dates are delivered in their authentic, unprocessed form and each fruit contains one pit. Thanks to the soft, pliable texture, the pit can be removed easily with your fingers or a gentle slit.
• Children and safety: When serving dates to children, we recommend extra caution. Always remove the pit before eating. For small children, it’s safer to slice the fruit lengthwise to ensure the pit is gone, then cut into smaller bites.
Storage and shelf life: How to keep freshness without chemicals
Our dates are a purely natural product without any chemical treatment or preservatives. To keep the flavour and ideal texture, we recommend:
• After delivery: Once you receive your parcel, transfer the dates into an airtight container and place them in the fridge.
• Best freshness in the fridge: After delivery, we recommend transferring the dates into an airtight container immediately. In the fridge at +5 to +7 °C they stay in perfect condition for at least 3 months.
• Protection from odours: Dates absorb surrounding aromas easily. An airtight container is key so they don’t pick up odours from other foods and keep their natural scent.
• Long-term storage (up to 1 year): If you want to stock up for the year, you can freeze the dates without worries. In the freezer at -18 to -20 °C they remain in ideal condition for 12 months. Low temperature is the most natural preservation method and requires no additives.
• Serving culture: For everyday enjoyment, serving dates in a beautiful glass jar with a lid is ideal. It looks elegant and the lid prevents evaporation of natural moisture, keeping every bite juicy.
