Saudi Medjool Rutab: a taste you won’t find elsewhere

Medjool dates are famous worldwide, but Saudi Medjool in the Rutab stage is a different league – thanks to a unique growing approach and exceptional natural conditions. Rutab Medjool is a rare category you can hardly find on the European market.

1. Tradition instead of mass production

In Saudi Arabia, especially in Al-Qassim, Medjool isn’t treated as a standard export commodity. Farming still follows strict traditional methods, with individual care given to each palm. This approach is deeply rooted in local culture, where dates symbolize the highest respect and hospitality.

2. The secret of volcanic soil and clean fruity flavor

The flavor difference comes from the unique mineral composition of volcanic soils in Al-Qassim oases. Mineral-rich soil combined with an ideal microclimate gives Medjool dates their deep reddish-brown color and full caramel sweetness.

Result: no heavy “burnt sugar” aftertaste – instead a clean caramel-honey flavor with fruity notes of raisins and plums.

3. Rutab stage – royal juiciness in its purest form

What makes these dates truly exceptional is harvesting in the Rutab stage – the third ripeness stage of dates. Rutab is peak juiciness: the fruit can contain up to 45% moisture and reaches its creamiest texture.

Why is Rutab so rare?

Most commercial Medjool worldwide is harvested in the Tamar stage (fully ripe and drier) because it stores and ships better. Rutab Medjool requires immediate cooling and specialized logistics from palm to customer, which significantly increases costs. That’s why most producers skip this stage.

In Al-Qassim, Saudi growers honor tradition and harvest Medjool in this juiciest stage. The result: dates that are up to 3× juicier than standard Medjool, with a texture that literally melts on the tongue.

Comparison:

  • Regular Medjool (Tamar): firmer, chewier, less moist
  • Our Rutab Medjool: extra soft, creamy, maximally juicy

4. No artificial treatment – just natural perfection

Unlike mass production, where dried dates are often artificially rehydrated with steam or even soaked in glucose syrup to get shine and softness, our Rutab Medjool keeps its natural quality thanks to harvesting at the right time.

With Arabia’s ideal climate and traditional farming, these dates have their gloss and softness completely naturally. No extra “polishing” with syrups, no steaming – just an authentic fruit in its purest form.

Did you know…?

• A natural energy reserve: thanks to Al-Qassim’s unique soil and climate, these Medjool dates are naturally rich in potassium, magnesium, and fiber. For athletes and active people, they’re a more effective (and tastier) energy source than artificial supplements.

• An authentic Arabian variety: Saudi Medjool stays true to the original variety and is grown traditionally without genetic modification. While some global producers breed mainly for perfect looks and faster profits, Al-Qassim growers honor centuries-old tradition and authenticity. The result is the “King of Dates” with natural flavor and texture.

• Premium quality from a prestigious region: our Medjool comes from top farms in Al-Qassim, a region famous for high-quality dates. The ideal climate helps fruits reach full caramel sweetness and signature juiciness. Each fruit is hand-picked and carefully selected.

Origin: the heart of Arabian tradition in Al-Qassim

These premium Medjool dates come from fertile oases of the Al-Qassim region in central Saudi Arabia. The area is known worldwide as the “date garden” and home to more than 8 million palm trees. Here, top Medjool batches are grown with maximum respect for tradition – not as a mass commercial product.

Why is Al-Qassim special?

Ideal microclimate: a specific mix of hot desert sun and rich underground springs creates perfect ripening conditions. That’s why our Medjool has exceptional juiciness and a clean honey taste with caramel-fruity notes, without any burnt-sugar bitterness.

Generational heritage: the plantations have a long tradition where growing is a craft passed down through generations. Each fruit is the result of patient care, hand harvesting, and strict selection of the biggest Jumbo pieces.

Home of the world’s biggest date festival: Al-Qassim hosts the Buraidah Date Festival, where over 300,000 tons of dates are sold annually. Prestigious auctions take place, where top Medjool batches gain remarkable recognition.

Premium Rutab harvest: our Medjool is harvested at the optimal ripeness stage for perfect balance between juiciness and sweetness.

Important note: pit and safety

• Natural fruit with a pit: the dates are delivered in their authentic, unprocessed form and each fruit contains one pit. Thanks to the soft flesh, the pit is easy to remove with fingers or a light cut.

• Children & safety: please take extra care when serving dates to children. Always remove the pit before eating. For small children, it’s safer to cut the fruit lengthwise and then into smaller bites.

Storage & shelf life: how to keep freshness without chemicals

Our dates are 100% natural with no chemical treatment or preservatives. To keep the best taste and texture:

• After delivery: transfer dates into an airtight container and store in the fridge.

• Best freshness in the fridge: at +5 to +7 °C they stay in perfect condition for at least 3 months.

• Odor protection: dates absorb aromas easily – a sealed container is essential.

• Long-term storage (up to 1 year): you can safely freeze them. At -18 to -20 °C they keep ideal quality for 12 months.

• Serving culture: for daily use, serve in a glass jar with a lid – it looks elegant and helps prevent moisture loss.
