Saudi Saggai: a desert jewel with a unique texture

While most of the world knows Medjool or Ajwa dates, connoisseurs in Saudi Arabia speak with respect about a variety that remains almost unknown in Europe — Saggai. These dates represent the peak of a gourmet experience thanks to their fascinating texture contrast and sophisticated flavor you won’t find in any other variety.

1. The secret of contrasting textures in a single fruit

Saggai are famous for their distinctive texture profile. Harvested in the Rutab stage, they gain exceptional juiciness and a complex structure:

The outer part is firmer with pronounced notes of plums and raisins • The inner part is soft, moist, and perfectly juicy with a full fruity taste

This contrast in a single bite creates an unforgettable gourmet experience — you start with an intense layer reminiscent of ripe plums and raisins, then move into a creamy, tender texture inside. It’s like tasting several layers of flavor in one date.

2. A balanced flavor for demanding gourmets

Unlike aggressively sweet varieties, Saggai offers a more restrained, balanced flavor with plum-and-raisin character. This sophisticated profile makes Saggai an ideal pairing for Arabic coffee with cardamom or a strong espresso — their complex taste balances coffee bitterness without overpowering it.

3. Rarity and luxury — dates for special occasions

In Saudi Arabia, Saggai are valued as a symbol of luxury and respect. They are often served at engagements, weddings, and important family gatherings.

At special auctions for collectors and connoisseurs, the price of outstanding specimens can reach up to 200 EUR per kilogram — a testament to their exceptional rarity and prestige in the Arab world.

In Europe, they are practically impossible to find — most production stays in Saudi Arabia and neighboring Gulf countries. That’s why their availability in the Czech market is a unique opportunity.

4. Natural quality from the Al-Qassim oases

Just like Medjool Rutab, Saggai comes from the renowned Al-Qassim region, where:

• Mineral-rich soil gives the fruits their signature profile • Extreme desert heat by day and cool nights create ideal conditions for developing their unique texture • Traditional cultivation with individual care for each palm ensures top quality

Thanks to optimal climate conditions, Saggai in the Rutab stage keep their natural juiciness and softness without any processing, steaming, or added syrups.

Important note: Saggai Rutab are rare even in Saudi Arabia, and in Europe they are an absolute delicacy. If you’re looking for dates that will surprise you with uniqueness and a sophisticated taste, Saggai is the right choice.

Product origin: the heart of Arab tradition in the Al-Qassim region

These premium Saggai dates come from the fertile oases of the Al-Qassim region in central Saudi Arabia. The area is globally famous as the “date garden” and home to some of the rarest batches, cultivated exclusively in this territory.

Why is Al-Qassim so special?

Ideal microclimate: A specific combination of hot desert sun and rich underground springs creates conditions you won’t find anywhere else in the world. The region has over 8 million date palms and produces more than 370 thousand tons of dates annually. These unique conditions give Saggai dates their characteristic two-tone appearance and delicate texture.

Generational heritage: Our dates come from plantations with a long tradition, where know-how is passed down from generation to generation. Each fruit is the result of careful hand harvesting and strict selection of the best specimens.

A place of prestigious auctions: The world’s largest date festival (Buraidah Date Festival) takes place in Al-Qassim every year, trading more than 300 thousand tons of dates. The festival hosts auctions where the highest-quality batches can reach daily sales up to 5 million USD.

While most production remains a national treasure on the local market, we bring you the chance to taste the very best — straight from these renowned plantations, in authentic quality that delivers freshness and a depth of flavor you won’t find elsewhere.

Important note: pit and safety

• Naturally with the pit: The dates are delivered in their authentic, unprocessed form and each fruit contains one pit. Thanks to the soft and pliable texture, the pit can be removed very easily with your fingers or with a small cut.

• Children and safety: When serving dates to children, we recommend extra caution. Always remove the pit before consumption. For small children, it’s safer to cut the fruit lengthwise to ensure the pit is gone, then cut into smaller pieces.

Storage and shelf life: how to keep freshness without chemicals

Our dates are a purely natural product without any chemical treatment or preservatives. To keep their taste and ideal texture, we recommend the following:

• After delivery: Once you receive your order, transfer the dates into an airtight container and place them in the refrigerator.

• Best freshness in the fridge: Transfer the dates into an airtight container right away. In the fridge at +5 to +7 °C, they stay in perfect condition for at least 3 months.

• Odor protection: Dates easily absorb surrounding aromas. Storing them in a sealed container is key so they don’t pick up smells from other foods and keep their natural fragrance.

• Long-term storage (up to 1 year): If you want to stock up for the year, you can safely freeze the dates. In the freezer at -18 to -20 °C, they remain in ideal condition for 12 months. Low temperature is the most natural preservation method and requires no additives.

• Serving culture: For everyday enjoyment, serve dates in a beautiful glass jar with a lid. It looks elegant and the lid prevents natural moisture from evaporating, so every bite stays juicy and delicious.
